POIPET, Jan 29, 2026 — Cambodia and Thailand concluded three days of border committee talks on Thursday without reaching agreement, with both sides deciding to return to their respective headquarters to continue negotiations, Cambodia’s defence ministry said.

The discussions were held at the Poipet international border checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey and Sa Kaeo, involving Cambodia’s 5th Military Region and Thailand’s 1st Army Area, according to a statement by Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Sar Kimpak, chief of the Cambodian Secretariat of the Regional Border Committee (RBC), while the Thai side was headed by Phittayakool Pothisuwan, chairman of the Thai RBC Secretariat.

The ministry said both sides agreed to continue exchanging documents and negotiations until consensus is reached, after which a formal signing ceremony and a meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand Military Region Border Committee would be convened.

The special RBC meeting was held in line with a joint statement from the third special meeting of the General Border Committee in December 2025, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to easing tensions, promoting stability and working toward a return to normalcy along the border.

The talks were conducted under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team, the ministry said.
