PHNOM PENH, Jan 29, 2026 — Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, on Thursday received Kim Changyong, South Korea’s ambassador to Cambodia, and called for bilateral relations to be elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador and thanked him for highlighting progress in ties between Cambodia and South Korea. He noted that the two countries will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year and said the relationship should be upgraded from a strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership, citing broad-based cooperation across nearly all sectors.

In response, Ambassador Kim Changyong said he shared the expectation of upgrading bilateral ties and pledged to work actively to advance diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Cambodia and South Korea have expanded cooperation in trade, investment, education and people-to-people exchanges in recent years.
