Cambodia, South Korea step up joint action against transnational crime
PHNOM PENH, Feb. 3, 2026 — Cambodia and South Korea agreed to strengthen cooperation against transnational crimes, including online scams, during talks between Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and Kim Changyong, the newly appointed South Korean ambassador to Cambodia.
During an introductory meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prak Sokhonn welcomed Kim and praised the steady progress in bilateral ties, highlighting close coordination between Cambodian authorities and the South Korea in combating cross-border crimes that threaten regional security and public safety.
Ambassador Kim, in response, commended Cambodia’s efforts in cracking down on transnational criminal networks and said South Korea would work closely with Cambodian institutions to deepen joint action against online fraud and other organised crimes during his diplomatic mission.
The two sides also reaffirmed their Strategic Partnership, elevated in 2024, and noted that 2027 will mark the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations, with plans for commemorative activities and expanded cooperation.
Prak Sokhonn also briefed the ambassador on the current situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border, according to the ministry’s readout.
