Maha Sarakham Vote Recount Protest Continues Into Tuesday Morning
BANGKOK, Feb 10, 2026 — Protests demanding a recount in Maha Sarakham’s Constituency 1 continued into the early hours of Tuesday, with demonstrators still gathered at the vote-counting site at around 3 a.m., according to protest organisers.
The crowd, made up largely of university students, remained at the location despite the late hour, insisting that alleged irregularities in the vote count be addressed through a transparent recount.
Protesters cited discrepancies between polling-station tallies and later official results, changes to reported voter turnout figures, and the discovery of election-related documents discarded in trash containers at the counting venue.
Demonstrators said the situation reflected a broader pattern seen in other provinces, where unresolved questions over ballot handling and tallying procedures had led to prolonged overnight protests, including similar standoffs in Chonburi.
As of early Tuesday, election authorities had not ordered a recount. Protesters said they would continue to remain at the site until officials provided a clear explanation or agreed to recheck the vote.
