Cambodia’s PM Reaffirms Duty to Protect Territory and Citizens

Phnom Penh, Feb. 10, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Tuesday reaffirmed that territorial integrity and public safety remain the government’s top priorities, pledging that authorities would not abandon their duty to protect national sovereignty and the lives of citizens.

Speaking at a meeting with more than 3,000 top-performing high school students in Phnom Penh, Hun Manet said the government has consistently placed border and public security issues at the forefront since the first and second outbreaks of armed clashes, although he declined to detail specific measures.

“From the very beginning, territory and people have been the government’s highest priority,” he said, adding that safeguarding sovereignty and citizens’ lives remained a core responsibility.

Hun Manet also thanked Cambodians at home and abroad, particularly young people, for showing unity and solidarity by supporting soldiers, police and displaced civilians, calling it a powerful demonstration of national spirit.

Acknowledging public concern over border-related casualties, injuries and property damage, Hun Manet said the government would pursue any approach that upholds sovereignty while minimising harm to civilians.

He asked for public understanding, saying sensitive efforts to resolve border disputes with Thailand could not be fully disclosed but were ongoing.
