Thai Leader Calls for Calm as Recount Protests Emerge
Bangkok, Feb. 11, 2026 — Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Wednesday urged police and provincial officials to exercise restraint in handling groups calling for a vote recount, saying such demands are a legal right.
Speaking at Government House, Anutin said he had instructed governors, district chiefs and police to facilitate members of the public who have concerns about the vote count while maintaining order.
“It is the people’s right to make demands within the legal framework,” he said, adding that authorities must proceed with understanding and restraint.
Anutin said he had not reviewed the specific regulations governing recounts and that any decision rests with the Election Commission of Thailand and related agencies.
Protests opposing vote tallies have emerged in several areas following the recent election. Police have assured the government that the situation remains under control, he said.
