PHNOM PENH, March 7, 2026 — Japan said it will continue supporting efforts to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, while providing various forms of assistance to Cambodia, according to a statement from the Japanese Embassy.

The announcement came after Colonel Hara Takashi, counsellor and defence attaché at the Japanese Embassy in Phnom Penh, joined a site inspection visit along the Cambodia–Thailand border on March 4–5 organized by Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence.

Hara participated in the visit as a member of the Military Attaché Corps Phnom Penh (MACPP) and toured several locations including border villages in Banteay Meanchey province and the Preah Vihear Temple area.

The embassy said the Japanese government will continue to work with relevant countries through diplomatic efforts to support de-escalation and the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Tokyo also reiterated its commitment to provide various forms of assistance to Cambodia, while supporting efforts to reduce tensions and maintain stability along the border.

The visit formed part of a broader inspection by foreign military attachés based in Phnom Penh to observe the situation along the Cambodian–Thai border following clashes in 2025 and a ceasefire that took effect on Dec. 27, 2025.
