KAMPONG CHHNANG, March 11, 2026 — Cambodia will deploy four newly developed demining machine robots (DMRs) to help clear explosive remnants of war in areas affected by recent border conflict, the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) said on Wednesday.

The robotic demining machines were jointly researched and developed by CMAC and Japanese technology company IOS, according to a statement released in Kampong Chhnang province.

CMAC said the machines will be sent to frontline areas contaminated by unexploded ordnance and other war remnants, following what Cambodian authorities describe as a Thai military incursion, in order to accelerate clearance operations and ensure the safety of local communities.

The deployment marks part of Cambodia’s broader efforts to strengthen mine action using advanced technologies while protecting demining personnel from the risks posed by explosive remnants of war.

Officials said the robotic systems are designed to assist in clearing hazardous areas more efficiently, helping reduce threats to civilians and supporting the restoration of normal life in affected communities.
