PHNOM PENH, March 12, 2026 — Cambodia has received 30 advanced landmine detection systems from Japan, valued at about $1.3 million, to support the country’s demining operations, officials said on Thursday.

The equipment, known as the Advanced Landmine Imaging System (ALIS), was provided by the Government of Japan to assist the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) in clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war.

The detectors function like underground imaging scanners, allowing deminers to identify buried explosives more accurately.

Officials said the technology will significantly improve safety, speed and efficiency in mine clearance operations across affected areas.

Cambodia remains one of the countries heavily impacted by landmines left from decades of conflict, and authorities continue working with international partners to remove explosive remnants and ensure the safety of communities.
