Unexploded Bomb Found at Bridge Construction Site in Laos
BOLIKHAMXAY, March 12, 2026 — Construction workers in central Laos discovered a large unexploded bomb while excavating land for a bridge project in Bolikhamxay province, local authorities said.
The device was found about 17 meters underground in Nam Ngang Yai village in Khamkeut district on March 11, according to officials.
The bomb’s type has not yet been identified, and authorities have alerted explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams to inspect and safely remove the device.
Work at the construction site was halted after the discovery.
Laos remains heavily contaminated with unexploded ordnance (UXO) left over from decades-old conflicts, posing ongoing risks during infrastructure and agricultural projects.
