Cambodia Opens One-Week Export Route to China via Laos
VIENTIANE, June 23, 2026 – Cambodia and Laos have officially launched a new transit route for Cambodian agricultural exports to China, reducing transport times from up to 20 days to about one week and providing exporters with a faster route for fresh produce.
The new corridor was inaugurated in Vientiane on Monday by the agriculture ministers of Cambodia and Laos, according to Cambodian Agriculture Ministry spokesman Khim Finan. Representatives from around 30 Cambodian private companies also attended the launch.
Cambodian Agriculture Minister Dith Tina said the new route was the result of sustained negotiations between the agriculture ministries of the two countries and marked a significant step in facilitating cross-border agricultural trade.
The transit arrangement initially covers six Cambodian agricultural products destined for the Chinese market: bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava starch and durian.
Dith Tina said the new transport corridor would create fresh opportunities for Cambodian farmers and agribusinesses by expanding access to international markets while strengthening the competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural products.
Khim Finan said the route would significantly simplify customs procedures and reduce transport times from between 15 and 20 days to approximately one week, providing a major advantage for exporters of fresh agricultural products.
Cambodia and Laos previously signed an agreement on the transit of Cambodian agricultural products through Laos. Under the agreement, the transit framework covers both fresh and processed agricultural products, including bananas, durian, longan, rice, mangoes, cassava starch and other products that may be jointly approved by the two governments in the future.
The new corridor is expected to improve the efficiency of Cambodia’s agricultural exports to China by providing an additional overland route through neighbouring Laos while supporting regional trade connectivity.
