BANGKOK, March 14, 2026 — Thailand’s foreign minister expressed frustration after learning that Cambodian officials had reportedly urged South Korean lawmakers not to sell military aircraft to Thailand, saying the move could complicate efforts to rebuild trust between the two neighbors.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said he had been informed that a South Korean parliamentary delegation visiting Cambodia was asked by Cambodian lawmakers to reconsider selling aircraft to Thailand.

Sihasak said such actions were inappropriate and amounted to involving a third country in a bilateral dispute, urging Cambodia to avoid steps that could further complicate relations.

He made the remarks while reiterating Thailand’s position that it wants a sustainable ceasefire and improved relations with Cambodia following months of tensions along the border.

The two Southeast Asian neighbors experienced a major border crisis in 2025, which included military clashes and airstrikes before a ceasefire agreement was reached later that year with international mediation.

Sihasak said Thailand hopes both sides can use the current ceasefire period to restore confidence and pursue diplomatic solutions, warning that raising disputes at international forums or involving outside actors could hinder progress.

Thailand and Cambodia remain locked in a long-running border dispute, particularly around areas near the Preah Vihear temple region, though both governments have repeatedly pledged to resolve differences through dialogue and existing bilateral mechanisms.
