World Bank to Expand Support for Key Sectors in Cambodia
PHNOM PENH, March 17, 2026 — The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to support Cambodia’s socio-economic development and long-term growth, officials said following talks with Prime Minister Hun Manet on Tuesday.
World Bank Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Carlos Felipe Jaramillo met Hun Manet at the Peace Palace, where he praised Cambodia’s economic progress and expressed support for its ambition to become a high-income country by 2050.
Jaramillo said the World Bank would continue strengthening cooperation with Cambodia, focusing on job creation and sustainable economic development, while highlighting ongoing projects supported by the institution.
The World Bank has identified five priority sectors for Cambodia: agriculture and agribusiness, tourism, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure, with an emphasis on boosting private sector participation as a key driver of growth.
He added that the institution remains committed to expanding its partnership with Cambodia to ensure inclusive and resilient development.
Hun Manet welcomed the continued support and praised the strong cooperation between the Cambodian government and the World Bank, particularly in implementing the government’s economic strategy aimed at achieving long-term growth.
The prime minister also outlined key policy priorities, including human capital development, vocational training, education, healthcare, financial sector strengthening, and investment promotion, as well as support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Both sides also discussed the importance of public-private partnerships, skills development for youth, and strengthening Cambodia’s economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
Cambodia has been working closely with international partners such as the World Bank to sustain growth and improve living standards, while navigating external challenges including global economic volatility.
