Company Accused of Stockpiling 331,000 Litres of Fuel in Thailand
BANGKOK, March 23, 2026 — Thai authorities have charged a company in Ang Thong province with illegally stockpiling fuel, as officials step up enforcement amid ongoing supply disruptions and diesel shortages.
The case follows a raid by the Consumer Protection Police Division on an oil depot in Mueang district, where investigators discovered around 331,000 litres of fuel allegedly held without proper documentation.
The raid was triggered by complaints that diesel was being sold at 40.50 baht per litre, raising concerns over possible profiteering during a period of tight supply.
Officials said the company failed to provide evidence to justify the purchase costs of the fuel and did not issue required transport documents. Authorities also alleged that shipments intended for delivery in Bangkok were diverted to the Ang Thong depot.
The provincial energy chief has filed a formal complaint, accusing the operator of breaching Thailand’s fuel trade regulations.
Under the Fuel Trade Act, the alleged violations carry penalties of up to one year in prison and/or a fine of 100,000 baht.
The case comes as Thailand faces mounting pressure on fuel distribution, with authorities moving to prevent hoarding, stabilise prices and ensure adequate supply amid widespread diesel shortages.
