BANGKOK, April 14, 2026 — Thai police have arrested a foreign man accused of molesting a woman during Songkran celebrations in central Bangkok, authorities said.

The suspect, identified only as May, aged about 40, was detained at the scene on Rama IV Road in the Silom area after the victim shouted for help, drawing attention from bystanders and nearby officers.

Police said the incident occurred at around 16:30, during peak festivities, when large crowds gathered for Thailand’s traditional New Year celebrations.

An officer from Pathumwan Police Station responded to the call and found members of the public confronting the suspect. Witnesses alleged the man had behaved inappropriately toward multiple women, including pulling down one victim’s clothing.

Authorities said the suspect appeared intoxicated and resisted arrest. He denied the allegations during initial questioning, claiming he had been drinking and participating in festival activities.

He has been charged with committing an indecent act and remains in custody pending legal proceedings.

Police said the case highlights ongoing safety concerns during large public gatherings such as Songkran, particularly in popular areas like Silom.

Authorities have urged festival-goers to remain vigilant and report incidents immediately, adding that heightened security measures are in place throughout the holiday period.

Investigations are ongoing as officers gather further evidence and witness statements.
