PHUKET, Thailand, April 15, 2026 — Police in Phuket have arrested a group of foreign tourists after they were seen spraying officers with high-pressure water guns during Songkran celebrations in Patong, authorities said.

The incident, which occurred on April 14, drew widespread attention after videos circulated on social media showing dozens of tourists targeting officers stationed at a coordination point in Patong.

Footage showed police from Patong Police Station attempting to carry out their duties when they were repeatedly sprayed, forcing some officers to take cover.

Authorities said the actions went beyond normal festive behaviour and posed a potential risk of injury, particularly given the intensity and coordination of the group involved.

Additional video clips showed the suspects surrounding officers and continuing to spray them, prompting police to intervene and make arrests at the scene.

The individuals were taken into custody for legal proceedings, with officials indicating the behaviour was disruptive and intentional.

The incident has raised concerns about maintaining public order and safety during large-scale celebrations in popular tourist destinations.
