AOT Visits Displaced Families, Joins Khmer Cultural Games
BANTEAY MEANCHEY, April 16, 2026 — A team of ASEAN observers has visited displaced Cambodian families in northwestern Cambodia, assessing living conditions while engaging in traditional cultural activities during the Nokor Sangkran (Khmer New Year).
The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) conducted field visits to temporary shelters in Svay Chek district, where families displaced by border tensions are currently residing in former veterans’ housing facilities.
Officials said the team monitored and verified the humanitarian situation on the ground, including the daily living conditions of displaced residents.
During the visit, observers also took part in traditional Khmer games, including “bos angkunh” and “leak kanseng,” and interacted with families in an effort to build rapport and show solidarity.
The activities coincided with Khmer New Year celebrations, adding a cultural dimension to the monitoring mission.
Authorities said the engagement reflects both ongoing regional attention to the situation and efforts to support affected communities through direct interaction.

The visits are part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and provide updates on conditions faced by displaced populations in border areas.
