WASHINGTON, April 28, 2026 — The World Bank has approved $150 million in financing to support the first phase of a major transport and logistics upgrade program in Cambodia aimed at boosting connectivity, trade and job creation.

The funding is part of a broader $300 million initiative under the bank’s International Development Association to improve regional connectivity through upgrades to sections of the Asian Highway 21 (AH21) corridor.

The project is expected to benefit more than 1.6 million people by improving road conditions, strengthening logistics systems and expanding access to markets and services.

Cambodian officials said the upgrades would enhance transport efficiency, reduce costs and improve connectivity between domestic and regional trade routes, particularly along the corridor linking Cambodia and Vietnam.

The first phase will focus on improving 247 kilometres of road infrastructure and building capacity in logistics and trade facilitation, while a second phase will extend upgrades and support rural road access.

The World Bank said the programme is designed to support inclusive growth and attract private investment in sectors such as logistics, agriculture, transport services and tourism.

The initiative comes as Cambodia seeks to strengthen its infrastructure and competitiveness amid growing regional trade integration.
