Cambodia Factory Count Rises to Over 47,000, Creating 70,000 Jobs in Early 2026
PHNOM PENH, May 2, 2026 — The number of factories and enterprises in Cambodia has risen to 47,029 as of end-March 2026, creating more than 70,000 new jobs, a government spokesperson said on Saturday.
Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said the figure marked an increase of 380 enterprises compared with the previous year, reflecting continued expansion in the country’s industrial sector.
The growth in factories has provided tens of thousands of employment opportunities, contributing to improved labour market conditions and increased competition for workers, which could lead to better wages and benefits, labour representatives said.
Union leaders described the rise as a positive signal for Cambodia’s economy, noting that continued investment inflows demonstrate investor confidence in the country’s political stability and business environment.
They added that expanding industrial activity is expected to support income growth, strengthen domestic demand and drive broader economic development.
The government said it remains focused on attracting new investment while improving working conditions, wage policies and labour rights to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth.
Despite external pressures, including regional tensions and global energy price volatility, Cambodia’s industrial base has continued to expand, underpinned by stable policies and a favourable investment climate, officials said.
