PHNOM PENH, May 12, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held talks on Tuesday with Elchin Amirbayov, special representative of the president of Azerbaijan, as both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.

The meeting took place during Amirbayov’s working visit to Cambodia from May 9 to 14.

Prak Sokhonn congratulated Azerbaijan on the signing of a historic joint declaration with Armenia last year, witnessed by Donald Trump, describing it as a positive development for regional peace and stability.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in priority areas including politics, trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Officials also agreed to promote high-level exchange visits between the two countries and strengthen collaboration within regional and international frameworks, including the United Nations.

During the discussions, the Cambodian and Azerbaijani delegations exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and reaffirmed the importance of respecting international law and pursuing diplomatic and legal approaches for the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Prak Sokhonn also briefed the visiting delegation on the current situation surrounding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.

The talks reflected growing diplomatic engagement between Cambodia and Azerbaijan as both countries seek to expand political and economic cooperation.
