PHNOM PENH, May 19, 2026 — Greece’s newly appointed ambassador to Cambodia described Cambodia as a “beautiful country” with an ancient history and civilisation comparable to Greece, during a credential presentation ceremony in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

According to the Cambodian Senate, Ambassador Magadalini Nicolaou presented her credentials to acting head of state Hun Sen at the Solidarity Palace Palace.

The ambassador, Greece’s first female envoy accredited to Cambodia, said she was honoured to serve in the kingdom and highlighted similarities between the two countries’ long histories, cultures and civilisations.

She also pledged to work toward strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Greece, including expanding cooperation in trade, economic ties and other sectors of mutual interest.

Hun Sen welcomed the appointment and expressed hope that Nicolaou’s tenure would further deepen ties between the two countries.

According to Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith, Hun Sen agreed that Cambodia and Greece shared rich historical and cultural legacies, while noting Greece’s longstanding reputation as a centre of ancient civilisation and scholarship.

The Cambodian leader also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and mutual support between the two countries on the international stage.
