South Korean Visitor Reports Theft by Ladyboys in Pattaya
PATTAYA, June 4, 2026 — A South Korean tourist has reported being robbed by two ladyboys on Pattaya’s famous Walking Street after a designer bag containing cash and personal belongings was allegedly stolen during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident came to light after a concerned citizen contacted local reporters at around 9:30 p.m. on June 3 and provided video footage allegedly showing a group of ladyboys targeting a foreign tourist in the popular nightlife district.
The victim, identified by police as 38-year-old South Korean national Dong Chan Shin, later filed a formal complaint with investigators at Pattaya City Police Station.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. outside an entertainment venue on Walking Street. The tourist was walking through the area when one ladyboy allegedly approached him, initiated a conversation, embraced him and made physical contact.
Investigators believe a second suspect then moved in to distract the tourist while the pair allegedly stole a Gucci bag before fleeing the scene.
The stolen bag reportedly contained 10,000 baht in cash, an identity card and a hotel room key.
The concerned citizen who provided the footage said the video appeared to show the suspects surrounding the tourist before taking his belongings. The footage was shared as a warning to visitors and as a call for authorities to intensify efforts against pickpocket gangs operating in the area.
Reporters visiting the scene found that Walking Street serves as an operational point for Pattaya Tourist Police, who provide assistance to visitors from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. each day. After officers conclude their shifts, traffic is allowed to resume along the route toward Bali Hai Pier.
It is believed the suspects may have taken advantage of the period immediately after tourist assistance operations ended, when the area remained crowded but police visibility was reduced.
Pattaya City Police have acknowledged the complaint and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Investigators are gathering evidence and working to identify and locate the suspects in order to pursue legal action.
Authorities have advised tourists to remain vigilant, particularly in crowded nightlife areas, and to keep valuables secure while travelling in popular entertainment districts.
