Cambodia, China Sign US$1.98 Million Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Deal
PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 — Cambodia and China on Thursday signed an agreement covering seven cooperation projects under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Special Fund 2026, with total funding of approximately US$1.98 million.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, according to a press release issued by Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The projects span a range of sectors, including poverty alleviation, rural development, healthcare, tourism, green technology, water management and digital transformation. Among the initiatives are a mushroom cooperative enterprise in Kandal province, a hepatitis elimination program, community-based tourism digitalization projects and efforts to strengthen water data capacity and regional dialogue under the Mekong-Lancang framework.
The Foreign Ministry said the projects are aligned with Cambodia’s national development priorities and are expected to contribute to socio-economic development while enhancing regional cooperation among Mekong-Lancang countries.
Since 2017, Cambodia has received funding support for 113 projects under the MLC Special Fund. The ministry said the continued implementation of these initiatives reflects the enduring commitment of Cambodia and China to building a shared future of peace, prosperity and sustainable development across the Mekong-Lancang region.
