PHNOM PENH, June 6, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence announced that the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) conducted an observation mission along the Cambodia-Thailand border on Saturday to verify compliance with ceasefire measures and assess the situation on the ground.

According to a statement issued by the ministry’s spokeswoman, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated a visit by the ASEAN Observer Team to the C1 area in Thma Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province, at 9:25 a.m. local time.

The mission was led by the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team from the Philippines and was tasked with observing, verifying, and reporting on developments in the border area. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to review the implementation of measures outlined in the Joint Statement agreed upon after the ceasefire took effect.

The Ministry of National Defence said Cambodia continues to provide full support to the ASEAN Observer Team and emphasized the importance of strengthening the team’s role and mandate in monitoring compliance with the ceasefire and other agreements reached between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to the statement, Cambodia believes enhanced monitoring efforts can help promote transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between the two countries. The ministry also welcomed assistance from friendly countries willing to support the implementation and verification process.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed what they described as a firm and sincere commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement adopted during the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, as well as the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on October 26, 2025.

The statement added that Cambodia remains committed to all relevant agreements aimed at ensuring a rapid return to normalcy and promoting lasting peace and stability along the border.

The ASEAN observation mission comes as regional and international efforts continue to support the implementation of the ceasefire and confidence-building measures between Cambodia and Thailand following months of border tensions.
