New York, September 29, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed that Cambodia has strictly adhered to the ceasefire agreement and exercised the utmost patience in the face of repeated provocations and violations from the Thai side.

Speaking at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly under the theme “Together for Improvement: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights,” H.E. Prak Sokhonn underscored that Cambodia’s hard-won peace is now being threatened—not by internal strife as in the past, but by border conflict with a neighboring country.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep regret over Thailand’s continued unilateral actions aimed at seizing Cambodian territory by force instead of honoring agreed mechanisms, internationally recognized maps, and binding treaties. He highlighted repeated incidents that undermine confidence-building and peace efforts, including:

  • The forced eviction of Cambodian citizens from their homes,
  • The threat of applying Thailand’s domestic martial law against Cambodian civilians,
  • The displacement of hundreds of Cambodian families who have lived in their ancestral villages for decades, and
  • The occupation of areas not yet demarcated along the border.

“These actions clearly show disregard for the ceasefire terms and other bilateral agreements related to border resolution,” H.E. Prak Sokhonn stressed.

He further emphasized that such conduct constitutes a violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also infringing upon the rights and dignity of its people. Cambodia, he noted, has fully respected the ceasefire, demonstrating goodwill, transparency, and the highest degree of restraint despite persistent provocations from the Thai side.
