Cambodia Rejects Allegations of War Preparations Along Thai Border
PHNOM PENH, June 9, 2026 — Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving issues with Thailand through peaceful means, rejecting reports and allegations from some Thai media outlets and commentators that Cambodia is preparing for military conflict.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tea Seiha said Cambodia remains firmly committed to resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and mechanisms between the two countries.
The minister specifically cited the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement reached in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025, as well as the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on December 27, 2025.
His remarks came in response to reports and commentary circulating in Thailand claiming that Cambodia had rejected bilateral mechanisms and was increasing troop deployments and military equipment in preparation for armed conflict.
Tea Seiha rejected those assertions, stressing that Cambodia continues to support peaceful dialogue and existing mechanisms aimed at managing and resolving issues between the two neighbouring countries.
“Cambodia remains committed to resolving issues peacefully,” the defence minister said, adding that both sides should continue to work through established channels and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
He also expressed hope that Cambodia and Thailand would be able to address outstanding issues through peaceful means and completely avoid the use of military force.
The statement comes amid continued public discussion and media attention surrounding Cambodia-Thailand border issues, with Phnom Penh repeatedly emphasizing legal, diplomatic and peaceful approaches to dispute resolution.
