UNITED NATIONS, June 18, 2026 – Cambodia highlighted its efforts to advance the women, peace and security agenda and its contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations during a high-level meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday.

Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Keo Chhea, delivered the country’s statement during the Security Council’s high-level open debate on “Women, Peace and Security” at U.N. headquarters in New York.

The meeting was chaired by Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio in her capacity as president of the Security Council for June.

In his address, Keo outlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to promote the women, peace and security agenda at the national, regional and international levels.

He also highlighted Cambodia’s contributions to U.N. peacekeeping operations, noting that the country has deployed more than 10,000 peacekeepers to 12 U.N. missions worldwide, including more than 1,000 women serving in peacekeeping roles.

Cambodia has steadily expanded the participation of women in its peacekeeping deployments in recent years as part of broader efforts to promote gender equality and strengthen the role of women in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and post-conflict recovery.

The Women, Peace and Security agenda, established under U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325, aims to increase women’s participation in peace and security processes while strengthening the protection of women and girls affected by conflict.
