Cambodia Says Mislabelled Thai Mangoes in Korea Have Been Corrected
SEOUL, May 20, 2026 — Cambodia’s embassy in South Korea said on Wednesday that mangoes sold under the “Romdoul” brand in the South Korean market are “100% Cambodian products,” following online debate over the fruit’s origin and allegations of incorrect labelling.
In a statement, the embassy said the “Romdoul” mangoes currently available in South Korea were imported and distributed by Hyundai Agro (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., a Cambodian subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Corporation.
The clarification came after social media posts and videos questioned whether some mangoes marketed as Cambodian products were actually sourced from Thailand.
The embassy said an investigation by its commercial attaché found that one retail outlet in South Korea had mistakenly attached Cambodian-origin labels to Thai mangoes. According to the statement, the store owner acknowledged the error and corrected the labelling.
Cambodian officials warned retailers and distributors against falsifying product origins, saying such actions could lead to legal consequences.
The embassy also encouraged Cambodian nationals and consumers in South Korea to report suspected cases of false labelling through its official communication channels.
Cambodia has been seeking to expand exports of agricultural products, including mangoes, to international markets as part of broader efforts to strengthen its agro-industrial sector and promote Cambodian brands abroad.
