BANGKOK, June 22, 2026 – Australian biosecurity authorities have warned travellers to declare Thai herbal inhalers after officers detected products containing six plant species of biosecurity concern at Cairns Airport.

The warning was issued on June 20 through the Australian Biosecurity Facebook page, which featured an image of a popular Thai herbal inhaler. Authorities said officers had found herbal inhalation products containing six plant species that fall under Australia’s biosecurity framework.

Australian Biosecurity said that while traditional herbal remedies are widely used, products containing plant material may pose biosecurity risks and are subject to Australia’s strict import controls designed to prevent the introduction of pests, diseases and other biological threats.

Officials urged travellers to declare herbal products on arrival and check Australia’s import requirements before travelling, noting that declaring such items allows biosecurity officers to assess whether they can be brought into the country legally.

Products containing plant material, seeds, herbs and other organic substances may be inspected, restricted or seized depending on their contents and compliance with Australian import regulations.

According to Amarin, Australian authorities are continuing public awareness campaigns to help travellers understand biosecurity requirements and avoid penalties. No additional measures have been announced regarding the specific herbal inhaler featured in the warning.
