Cambodia Says DFC Investment Will Boost Techo Airport’s Regional Role
PHNOM PENH, June 23, 2026 – Cambodia has described a planned US$100 million financing package from the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for Techo International Airport as a long-term strategic investment that will support the airport’s expansion and strengthen its role as the country’s principal international aviation gateway.
The comments came after the DFC and Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on Monday outlining the proposed financing for Techo International Airport, one of Cambodia’s largest infrastructure projects.
Sin Chansereyvutha, Secretary of State and spokesman for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said the proposed financing should be viewed as more than a conventional infrastructure loan, describing it as a strategic investment aimed at supporting the airport’s long-term development, improving its capital structure, strengthening operational capacity and enhancing long-term sustainability.

He said the signing of the Letter of Intent marked an important step towards securing DFC financing and reflected growing international confidence in Cambodia’s infrastructure sector.
However, Sin noted that the financing has not yet become effective, as legal documentation, financial due diligence, regulatory compliance and other closing conditions must still be completed before the funds can be disbursed.
According to the Civil Aviation Secretariat, the financing is expected to support six strategic objectives, including expanding airport infrastructure and operational efficiency, improving financial sustainability, advancing Cambodia’s ambition to become a regional aviation hub, promoting economic growth and investment, strengthening international investor confidence, and attracting additional funding from international financial institutions.
Officials said the financing also represents a significant endorsement of both Techo International Airport and OCIC, one of Cambodia’s largest infrastructure developers.
The airport was recently named among the world’s most beautiful airports in the 2026 World Selection by the Prix Versailles, recognising its architecture and incorporation of Cambodian cultural design.
