PHNOM PENH, June 23, 2026 – Cambodia’s national mine action agency has put on display the remains of an MK-84 aerial bomb that it says was dropped by a Thai F-16 fighter jet during the recent Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, describing the ordnance as historical evidence of the fighting.

Heng Ratana, director-general of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), said the nearly one-tonne bomb had been safely rendered harmless before being transported to CMAC headquarters in Phnom Penh for public display.

In a social media post on Monday, Heng said the bomb was an authentic remnant of the conflict and would be preserved as historical evidence. He said the MK-84 bomb, weighing nearly 1,000 kilograms, was manufactured in August 1996 by Israel’s defence industry.

Cambodian authorities have previously alleged that Thai forces used aerial bombs, cluster munitions, drones, chemical munitions and other unexploded ordnance during two rounds of border fighting.

According to Heng, the conflict affected about 340 villages, contaminated approximately 441,000 hectares of land and impacted around 91,000 families.

Thailand has previously rejected Cambodian allegations regarding its military operations during the border conflict.
