Cambodia Says ICJ Judgments Must Not Be Violated Under Any Pretext
UNITED NATIONS, June 24, 2026 – Cambodia has called for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and stressed that judgments of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) must not be violated under any circumstances, during a UN Security Council Arria-Formula meeting on international peace and security.
Speaking at the meeting titled “Bridging the Implementation Gap: Security Council Resolutions and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security“, Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Keo Chhea, said Security Council resolutions play an essential role in the peaceful settlement of disputes, as well as in preventing conflicts and reducing tensions.
He said such resolutions must be fully implemented to ensure their effectiveness in maintaining international peace and security.
The ambassador also said ICJ judgments, like Security Council resolutions, carry legal force and must not be violated under any pretext.
Cambodia’s remarks come as Phnom Penh continues to advocate adherence to international law and legal mechanisms in addressing disputes, including its ongoing disagreements with neighbouring Thailand over land and maritime boundary issues.
