Cambodia Says Thai Border Attacks Left Civilian Infrastructure Unusable
ODDAR MEANCHEY, 25 June 2026 – Cambodia has stated that an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) visited a border area in Oddar Meanchey Province to monitor implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, while alleging that previous attacks by the Thai military caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of National Defence on 25 June, the Coordination Group (CLG) facilitated a field visit by the ASEAN Observer Team, led by the Philippine Head of Mission, to Prasat Ta Mone Sen Chey Pagoda in Ta Mone Sen Chey Village, Kok Mon Commune, Banteay Ampil District.
The ministry said the mission was conducted to observe, verify and report on the border situation and to assess compliance with all measures contained in the Joint Statement following the implementation of the ceasefire.
Cambodia also alleged that locations previously attacked by the Thai military consisted entirely of civilian infrastructure, including a school, hospital, pagoda and homes belonging to Cambodian civilians. It said the attacks caused extensive damage and left the facilities unusable.
The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement of 26 October 2025, and other relevant bilateral agreements.
The ministry said Cambodia remains committed to ensuring the rapid recovery of affected communities and restoring normalcy, peace, stability and security for people living along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
