Hun Sen: Climate May Change, But Cambodia-China Friendship Will Not
BEIJING, June 26, 2026 — Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen reaffirmed the enduring strength of Cambodia-China relations during a meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, saying that while the world and even the climate may change, the friendship between the two countries will remain unchanged.
The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday as Hun Sen led a high-level Cambodian delegation on an official visit to China.
According to Hun Sen’s spokesman, Chea Thyrith, Zhao welcomed the Cambodian delegation and described Cambodia and China as long-standing “ironclad friends” that have consistently supported one another. He also recalled Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia last year, saying it further strengthened traditional ties and advanced the building of the Cambodia-China all-weather community with a shared future in the new era.
Hun Sen thanked Zhao for the warm reception and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to its relationship with China.
“The Cambodia-China relationship remains strong,” Hun Sen said. “Even though the world is changing and the climate is changing, the friendship between Cambodia and China will not change.”
Hun Sen also highlighted the close cooperation between the two countries through their executive branches, ruling parties and legislative institutions. He expressed hope that parliamentary cooperation would play a more active role in strengthening bilateral relations and supporting broader cooperation between the governments and political parties of both countries.
In response, Zhao welcomed Hun Sen’s remarks, saying the relationship between Cambodia and China is built on mutual trust that cannot be undermined. He also expressed support for expanding cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries to further promote the Cambodia-China all-weather community with a shared future.
The meeting concluded with Zhao wishing Hun Sen and the Cambodian delegation a successful visit to China.
