AOT Strengthens Oversight of Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire
PHNOM PENH, 27 July 2026 — Cambodia has reaffirmed its full support for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) tasked with monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire along the Cambodia-Thailand border, as the Philippines-led mission continued its observation activities in the country.
According to a statement issued by Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Monday, Lt. Gen. Pov Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and Commander of Military Region 4, received the ASEAN Observer Team–Cambodia (AOT-KH), led by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon of the Philippines, at Military Region 4 headquarters in Siem Reap province.
During the meeting, Pov Heng welcomed the observer mission and expressed appreciation for the team’s continued efforts to promote regional peace, stability and confidence-building under the ASEAN framework. He also briefed the delegation on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
In response, Dizon thanked Military Region 4 for facilitating the observer mission and providing access for observation, verification and reporting activities along the border following the entry into force of the ceasefire.
He reaffirmed the ASEAN Observer Team’s commitment to carrying out its mandate of monitoring, verifying and reporting on conditions along the Cambodia-Thailand frontier.
The Defence Ministry said Cambodia remains committed to supporting and strengthening the role of the ASEAN Observer Team to help ensure implementation of the ceasefire, promote transparency, build mutual confidence and protect civilian lives.
The ministry added that Cambodia also welcomes friendly countries to deploy observers or otherwise contribute to peace-building efforts.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) of Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
According to the ministry, Cambodia’s objective is to support a rapid return to normalcy while promoting lasting peace, stability and cooperation along the shared border.
