AOT Inspects 114 Homes in Techo Morakot Village Damaged in Thai Attacks
PREAH VIHEAR, 11 August 2026 — The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) on Tuesday inspected and documented damage to 114 civilian homes in Techo Morakot Village, Preah Vihear province, where 511 residents remain unable to return to their homes, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence.
The field visit took place at 10:30am on August 11, 2026, with the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitating the mission. The AOT-KH delegation was led by its Head of Mission from the Philippines.
The affected residential area is located in Techo Morakot Village, Morakot Commune, Choam Ksan District, along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
According to the Cambodian Defence Ministry, all 114 households were fully affected, with the 511 residents including 268 women still unable to return to their homes.
The Defence Ministry said the affected properties belonged entirely to civilian residents and were not military positions.
It said the area was attacked by Thai military forces in December 2025, including through F-16 fighter-jet airstrikes and various types of heavy artillery.
Cambodia said the attacks caused severe damage and destruction to civilian homes, personal property and civilian infrastructure, leaving residents unable to safely return and resume their normal livelihoods.
The allegations concerning the attacks were made by Cambodia’s Defence Ministry and were not independently verified in the statement.
Cambodia said it continues to provide full support to the ASEAN Observer Team, stressing the importance of allowing the AOT to conduct direct on-site inspections to verify the situation and assess implementation of the ceasefire.
The government said such field missions are intended to strengthen transparency, accountability and mutual trust between the parties.
The latest inspection comes as ASEAN observers continue visiting locations affected by the Cambodia-Thailand conflict to document conditions on the ground and support verification of the ceasefire.
