China Reaffirms Neutrality and Constructive Role in Promoting Peace Between Cambodia and Thailand
Beijing, 10 October 2025 — The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed China’s neutral and constructive stance on the ongoing border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, emphasizing its continued efforts to promote peace and dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
At a regular press conference held on October 10, 2025, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to media reports alleging that China had supplied large quantities of weapons to Cambodia, questioning Beijing’s impartiality in the dispute.
Guo Jiakun dismissed the reports as false and misleading, stating that “since the outbreak of the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, China, as a friendly neighbor to both countries, has upheld a just and fair position and made active efforts to promote talks for peace.”
He highlighted that the foreign ministers of China, Cambodia, and Thailand had achieved important outcomes during a trilateral meeting in Anning, Yunnan Province, where the three countries held informal consultations. Additionally, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs had made several shuttle diplomacy visits to encourage peaceful dialogue between Phnom Penh and Bangkok.
“With the active efforts of China, Malaysia, and various parties, Cambodia and Thailand reached a ceasefire agreement and are maintaining communication through bilateral mechanisms,” Guo said, noting that the international community has spoken highly of China’s irreplaceable role in facilitating this process.
Guo further reiterated China’s support for both Cambodia and Thailand in resolving their differences peacefully through dialogue and consultation, and expressed China’s backing for Malaysia, as the current ASEAN Chair, in advancing the political settlement of the issue through the ASEAN Way.
“China stands ready to, in light of the will of Cambodia and Thailand, continue promoting talks for peace in our own way and play a constructive role in consolidating the ceasefire and advancing the peaceful settlement of the dispute,” Guo reaffirmed.
Addressing the allegations of military assistance, Guo clarified that China conducts normal defense cooperation with all ASEAN countries, including Cambodia and Thailand, based on mutual respect and shared regional security interests. He criticized certain Western media outlets for attempting to sow discord between China and other countries, stating firmly that “such attempts will never succeed.”
