British Man Found Stabbed to Death in Pattaya
PATTAYA, 3 July 2026 — A 33-year-old British man was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a house in Pattaya on Thursday morning, while his 20-year-old British girlfriend was taken into police custody for questioning after officers said evidence at the scene contradicted her account of the incident.
Police were called at around 10.30am on 2 July to a single-storey house on Pornprapanimit Road (Soi Siam Country Club) in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi.
Officers found the body of Thomas David Powell in the bathroom shower area with a pillow placed beneath his neck and a towel covering his body. Police said he had suffered six stab wounds, including two to his back and ribs, three to the front of his torso and one to his left hand.
Investigators also recovered a knife from a bathroom sink that appeared to have been washed clean. Police suspect an attempt may have been made to remove fingerprints or other forensic evidence.
The victim’s girlfriend, 20-year-old Isabel Violet Carreras, was found inside the house. Officers described her as appearing confused, emotionally distressed and giving inconsistent statements during questioning. The property showed signs of a violent struggle, with bloodstains in several rooms and belongings scattered throughout. Police also found cannabis-smoking equipment and reported a strong smell of cannabis inside the house.
According to investigators, the couple had been in a relationship for about two years and had planned to build a future together in Thailand. The woman told police they had spent the day looking at engagement rings before returning home, where they smoked cannabis together.
She claimed she could not remember what happened afterwards. In video recorded at the scene, she denied killing her boyfriend and alleged that he had been under severe stress, had taken several tablets and that the pair had been playing with knives. She claimed he accidentally injured himself and made comments suggesting he did not want to wake up the next morning.
Police said they do not believe her account, citing inconsistencies between her statement, the victim’s injuries and physical evidence recovered at the scene. Investigators also referred to CCTV footage which reportedly showed the victim running from the house while crying out in pain. Officers said no one other than the couple was believed to have been inside the property at the time.
As rescue workers removed Powell’s body, the couple’s dog, which had been confined in a cage outside, remained at the scene. Police allowed the woman to say goodbye to the animal before escorting her away for further questioning.
The body has been sent for a full post-mortem examination, while forensic officers continue collecting evidence. Police said additional interviews are being conducted and formal charges will be considered after investigators complete their review of all available evidence.
