PHNOM PENH, June 18, 2026 – Cambodia’s Defence Ministry said an ASEAN observer mission visited areas along the Cambodian-Thai border on Thursday to assess the security situation and review implementation of a ceasefire agreement, while Phnom Penh reiterated that it rejects any alteration of the international boundary through the use of force.

In a statement, the ministry said the Cambodian Liaison Group coordinated with the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by its Philippine head of mission, on a visit to the Choam International Border Checkpoint and other affected areas in Trapaing Prey commune, Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.

According to the statement, the delegation observed locations that Cambodia said had been attacked, fenced with barbed wire and illegally occupied by Thai military forces. The visit also aimed to verify conditions on the ground and assess compliance with measures contained in the joint statement that took effect following the ceasefire.

The ministry said Cambodia “categorically rejects any change to the border line resulting from the use of force,” reiterating its longstanding position that the Cambodia-Thailand boundary must be respected in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements.

The statement added that the ASEAN mission’s observations were intended to support efforts to ensure implementation of the ceasefire and facilitate conditions for stability along the border.

Thailand had not immediately commented on Cambodia’s latest statement. The two countries have previously exchanged differing accounts over incidents along sections of their shared frontier.
