BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Oct. 4, 2026 — Cambodian police have raided an alleged online scam operation in Poipet and arrested 587 suspects, including 18 Thai nationals, with authorities identifying a Thai national as the alleged ringleader of the operation.

The crackdown was carried out on October 4, 2026, at a 30-storey glass building in Samaki Meanchey village, Ou Chrov commune, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province, according to Cambodia’s National Police.

Authorities said the operation was conducted under the direct orders of National Police Chief Gen. Sao Sokha and led by National Police Deputy Commissioner Lt Gen. E Su Khii, in cooperation with Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities and under the coordination of representatives of the provincial prosecutor’s office.

587 Suspects Detained

National Police officials said a total of 587 people, including 105 women, were arrested during the operation.

The suspects included:

  • 518 Indonesians, including 76 women
  • 18 Thais, including six women
  • 51 Cambodians, including 21 women

Police said the operation targeted an online scam network operating from the building.

According to senior National Police officials, the alleged ringleader of the scam operation is a Thai national.

Authorities also seized a large quantity of materials and equipment during the raid, although the initial announcement did not provide further details about the items confiscated.

The suspects were taken into custody as authorities continued their investigation into the alleged online scam operation and the roles played by those detained.
