Cambodia Launches First Mobile Power Substation
PREAH VIHEAR, 25 June 2026 – Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) has commissioned Cambodia’s first truck-mounted mobile power substation in Preah Vihear Province, aiming to improve electricity supply and meet growing demand, particularly from industrial zones.
EDC announced that the 115/35-kilovolt mobile substation, with a capacity of 30 MVA, successfully completed testing on 23 June before entering service on 24 June in Roksa Commune, Rovieng District.
The mobile substation can be transported between locations and rapidly connected to high-voltage transmission lines, allowing electricity authorities to respond quickly to urgent power supply needs and improve the reliability of the national grid.
The facility will operate temporarily in Rovieng District before being relocated to other areas once a permanent substation, currently under construction, is completed by the end of 2026.
According to EDC, the project will significantly improve electricity supply in Rovieng and surrounding areas, which previously relied on medium-voltage distribution lines extending more than 70 kilometres from the Chhaeb Sen substation. The long-distance supply network had limited reliability and was insufficient to support industrial-scale electricity demand.
To meet rapidly increasing electricity consumption in industrial parks and special economic zones, EDC plans to deploy seven additional mobile substations by the end of 2026. They will be installed in Kampong Thom Province’s Baray, Stoung and Chi Kraeng districts, southern Siem Reap Province, Kampong Ro District in Svay Rieng Province, as well as Battambang and Tboung Khmum provinces.
EDC said the mobile substations can be deployed within about two weeks at new locations and can replace damaged substations in as little as two days, providing greater flexibility and resilience for Cambodia’s electricity network.
