PHNOM PENH, 6 July 2026 — Four Cambodian soldiers were injured by shrapnel after an explosive device detonated during a border patrol in Oddar Meanchey province on Sunday, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence said, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blast.

According to a ministry press release issued on 6 July, the incident occurred at approximately 12:35pm on 5 July in a cashew plantation area at Chouk Kruos, Thma Don village, Kouk Mon commune, Banteay Ampil district.

The ministry said Cambodian troops were conducting a routine patrol when they encountered a patrol from the Royal Thai Armed Forces operating on the opposite side of a barbed-wire fence.

Shortly after the two patrols passed each other, an explosive device detonated behind the Cambodian patrol, injuring four Cambodian military personnel with shrapnel wounds.

The wounded soldiers are receiving medical treatment under the care of military medical teams and other relevant personnel, the ministry said.

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said frontline commanders and specialist teams are conducting a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the explosion and determine its cause before releasing further findings.

The ministry also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement of 26 October 2025, and other relevant bilateral agreements.

It said Cambodia remains committed to resolving border issues peacefully and restoring normalcy, lasting peace and stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
