Cambodia Unveils Next-Generation Border Security System
PHNOM PENH, June 10, 2026 — Cambodia officially launched its second-generation Cambodia Border Management System (CBMS-2) and related digital functions on June 9, marking a significant step forward in modernizing border control and enhancing national security.
The system was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha, who described the launch as a major achievement resulting from the collective efforts of the General Department of Immigration and in line with Prime Minister Hun Manet’s digital transformation agenda introduced in 2024.
According to Sar Sokha, the CBMS-2 platform provides a more comprehensive and accurate picture of activities at Cambodia’s international border checkpoints, enabling authorities to better manage cross-border movements while strengthening the prevention and suppression of transnational crimes and other security threats.

The Interior Minister emphasized that the new system will play an important role in improving immigration management, facilitating border operations, and enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies responsible for safeguarding the country’s borders.
To ensure the system operates efficiently and securely, Sar Sokha called for continued investment in human resource development, particularly in foreign language proficiency and digital technology skills among immigration officials. He also stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity measures to protect the system from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cyber threats.
Officials noted that the launch of CBMS-2 forms part of broader efforts to adopt modern technologies capable of responding to evolving security challenges at both regional and global levels. The government also plans to continue cooperating closely with international organizations, partner countries, and relevant institutions to exchange expertise, technology, and intelligence.
Authorities said enhanced international cooperation will support joint efforts to combat transnational crime, improve border security, and ensure the safety and stability of Cambodia’s national frontiers.
The rollout of CBMS-2 reflects Cambodia’s ongoing push toward digital governance and smarter border management as the country seeks to strengthen security while facilitating legitimate travel and trade.
