Cambodia, New Zealand Deepen Cooperation in Multple Areas
WELLINGTON, March 14, 2026 — Cambodia and New Zealand reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during talks between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, officials said.
During the meeting on Friday, Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for the strong and growing relationship between the two countries, particularly in trade, investment, education and agriculture.
He also thanked New Zealand for providing additional assistance of NZD 7.5 million (about $4.6 million) to support mine clearance operations in Cambodia, as well as for continuing to offer scholarship programs for Cambodian students.
The Cambodian minister said regular high-level exchanges between the two governments have helped strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding.
Prak Sokhonn also briefed his New Zealand counterpart on recent developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border, according to a statement from Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cambodia remains one of the countries most affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance left from decades of conflict, and international partners including New Zealand have supported long-running humanitarian demining programs aimed at clearing contaminated land and improving safety for local communities.
Officials from both countries expressed interest in expanding cooperation across economic and development sectors as Cambodia continues to pursue regional integration and sustainable growth.
