PHNOM PENH, October 26, 2026 — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border disputes with Thailand through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, marking the first anniversary of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, also known as the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the declaration and its pursuit of lasting peace between the two countries.

The ministry said Cambodia remained firmly committed to upholding the ceasefire and implementing the spirit of the declaration in good faith. It stressed that border disputes and demarcation issues must be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law, while avoiding threats or the use of force and any acts of provocation.

Cambodia Highlights Bilateral Border Mechanisms

The statement reaffirmed the importance of three bilateral mechanisms for addressing border-related issues: the Regional Border Committee (RBC), the General Border Committee (GBC) and the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

Cambodia said these mechanisms should be used to address border issues peacefully and in accordance with their respective mandates.

The ministry also emphasized the Royal Government’s commitment to working constructively with Thailand, with continued support and engagement from the United States and other partners, particularly ASEAN and members of the international community concerned about the dispute.

The goal, it said, is to ensure the full and faithful implementation of the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords and turn the commitment to lasting peace into reality for the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand.

Cambodia Thanks International Partners

Cambodia expressed appreciation to the United States, Malaysia, ASEAN and other partners for their constructive roles in supporting dialogue and peace efforts.

The ministry said Cambodia remained committed to working with Thailand and relevant partners to strengthen mutual trust, protect civilians, facilitate the safe return of displaced people, and promote stability and prosperity along the shared border.

The Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration was signed on October 26, 2025, by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand, with US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim witnessing the signing.

One year later, Cambodia’s statement reiterates its stated commitment to the agreement and to achieving a lasting, peaceful resolution of border-related issues with Thailand.
