Cambodia to Remove Container Scan Charges From May 1
PHNOM PENH, April 28, 2026 — Cambodia will abolish container scanning fees from May 1 as part of efforts to reduce logistics costs and support businesses, a senior customs official said on Tuesday.
Kun Nhem, director-general of the General Department of Customs and Excise, said the government had approved the removal of the fees in a move aimed at facilitating trade and easing financial burdens on the private sector.
The measure forms part of broader steps to mitigate rising costs linked to global fuel price increases, officials said.
Additional measures include reduced import duties on electric vehicles, batteries, solar equipment and electric stoves, as well as tax relief on fuel imports to help stabilise domestic prices and ensure supply.
Kun Nhem said the combined policies were expected to reduce government revenue by nearly $50 million per month, but were necessary to support economic activity and improve the business environment.
He added that the reforms were also aimed at strengthening tax collection, curbing evasion and enhancing governance within Cambodia’s customs system.
The announcement was made during a workshop on anti-tax evasion measures and governance reforms for 2026.
