Cambodian Diplomats Call on UN to Help Displaced Families Return Home
GENEVA, October 11, 2026 — Cambodian diplomats have urged the United Nations to use its role to help more than 20,000 Cambodian civilians displaced by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict return to their homes safely and with dignity, in accordance with international law.
According to the Cambodian account of discussions at the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from September 7 to October 7, Cambodia welcomed the UN Special Rapporteur’s attention to the immediate human rights impacts of the border conflict.
Cambodia also expressed strong support for the Special Rapporteur’s call for Cambodia and Thailand to cooperate in facilitating the swift and safe return of displaced Cambodian civilians to their homes.
The Cambodian delegation reiterated the country’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights through active engagement with international mechanisms. It also called for the full and sincere implementation of the joint declaration signed by Cambodia and Thailand on December 27, 2025.
Cambodia emphasized the importance of ensuring that displaced civilians can return to their homes safely and with dignity, in line with international law.
