KAMPONG THOM, May 30, 2026 — Governors and delegations from the central banks of 26 Francophone countries visited the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex on Saturday as part of activities surrounding the 28th Conference of Francophone Central Bank Governors hosted by Cambodia.

The delegation, representing countries from Europe, the Middle East and Asia, was led by National Bank of Cambodia Governor Chea Serey and was welcomed by Phan Nady, Director-General of the Sambor Prei Kuk National Authority, along with relevant officials.

According to organizers, the visit aimed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s cultural heritage and ongoing conservation efforts at the historic archaeological site.

During the tour, delegates visited several key monuments within the Sambor Prei Kuk complex, including Prasat Chrei, the Sambor temple group, the Yeay Poan temple group and the Tao temple group. Officials briefed visitors on restoration projects, preservation initiatives and the management of the UNESCO-listed heritage site.

The visit formed part of a broader program accompanying the 28th Conference of Francophone Central Bank Governors, which is being held in Phnom Penh under the theme of central bank independence in the face of growing expectations from governments and the public.

Cambodia is hosting the conference for the third time, bringing together governors and senior officials from Francophone central banks to discuss monetary, financial and economic issues while promoting cooperation among member institutions.

The excursion to Sambor Prei Kuk also served as an opportunity to showcase Cambodia’s rich cultural legacy and tourism potential to international delegates attending the high-level gathering.
