PURSAT, November 5, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced that representatives from 70 countries have registered to attend the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host in Phnom Penh from November 14 to 16, 2026.

Speaking during a ceremony to distribute rice seeds and food supplies to flood-affected residents in Pursat province on November 5, Hun Manet said more than 20 countries had already confirmed the participation of their presidents, heads of state or heads of government.

The Prime Minister described Cambodia’s role as host of the major international gathering as a significant source of national pride.

He also highlighted the expected participation of French President Emmanuel Macron, who will visit Cambodia for an official visit and attend the summit in person.

Hun Manet described Macron’s visit as particularly historic, noting that more than 60 years had passed since a French president last made an official visit to Cambodia.

“This is a great honour and a historic event. Every Cambodian should be immensely proud that our country is able to organise such a major international event,” Hun Manet said.

However, the Prime Minister also expressed disappointment with members of the overseas opposition who had reportedly written to the French president asking him not to attend the summit in Cambodia.

He criticised those efforts, saying it was regrettable that some fellow Cambodians were not celebrating the country’s opportunity to host the international event and were instead attempting to undermine its image and national progress.

The 20th Francophonie Summit will bring together representatives of French-speaking countries and governments for three days of discussions and diplomatic engagement in Cambodia.
