King Norodom Sihamoni to Receive Surgery in China
PHNOM PENH, April 19, 2026 — Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni will undergo surgery in Beijing following medical advice from specialist doctors, the Royal Palace said in a statement on Saturday.
The palace said the monarch’s health is currently under close monitoring and evaluation by a team of experienced physicians at a hospital in the Chinese capital.
Doctors have recommended surgical treatment, and the King has agreed to proceed with the procedure starting April 18, according to the statement.
Following the operation, the King will remain in Beijing for a period of recovery and continued medical supervision.
The palace added that both the King and Norodom Monineath Sihanouk are expected to return to Cambodia once his health has sufficiently improved, in line with medical guidance.
No further details about the nature of the condition or the procedure were disclosed.
The announcement comes as Cambodians have been closely following updates on the monarch’s health, with well-wishes expressed across the country.
